23rd April Arrive Ulgii and Drive To ALTAI NATIONAL PARK
Transfer to the airport
Domestic flight (4hrs) to Bayan-Ulgii.
On arrival met by local kazakh guide
Drive to town. After lunch, on 4wd minivans (Forgons) along the north-westernly route towards Shiveet Hairkhan Uul (mountain) on Tsagaan Gol (valley) (5-6 driving hours; 185 k)
24th April Trek to ALTAI TAVANBOGD
With the support of camels, we will trek for 16km to the base camp area at the edge of the 20km long Potanina glacier, that runs down from the highest mountains in Mongolia. We will pitch our camp right here. Tavanbogd means "The Holy Five" referring to the peaks of Huiten (4374m and the highest), Naran, Ulgii, Burget and Nairamdal. It is a stunning setting with the awe inspiring massif of high snow capped peaks.
25th April Climb to Malchin
Climb to Malchin 4025m and come back to Base Camp.
26th -28th April Skying
29th April Climb to Khuiten
Climb to Khuiten 4374m and come back to Base Camp
30th April Skying by Khuiten Base Camp
1st May Drive Back to TsanbaGarav Uul
Arrival to Tsambagarav, starting ascention.
2nd May Ascension Tsambagarav.
3rd May Ascension Tsambagarav, return to base camp.
4th May Drive to Ulgii
Drive back to Ulgii town. If not on the first day, now we will visit the local sights of this rather ugly town.Visit the local museum of Ulgii town with comprenhensive
information of flora and fauna of Bayan Ulgii aimag as well as it colourfull traditional costumes.Overnight in hotel or “Blue Wolf” GerCamp.
5th May Fly Out
Transfer to airport and depart for UB
Some recommendations: The western Mongolian winters are cold and dry with occasional snow,but most days have clean blue sky and strong sun. The temperature can fluctuate as much 20 degrees centigrade between day and night.
What to bring: Warm and light clothing, binoculars,a hat,gloves,long underware for travel in the high mountains,comfortable footware,lip balm,sanitary hand wipes,sunglasses,prescription medications,(if needed),flashlight.
Transport: The services of some herdsmen will be hired by the expedition, and they will provide us with their animals.
Staff: A local guide who speaks English and Mongolian will accompany the group at all times.A cook will follow, with an assistant.In addition, the services of the local herdsmen will be hired along with their animals.The horsemen follow a traditional lifestyle in the areas where we will be riding.
Meals: Our cook will prepare the meals.We pride ourselves in having cooks adapt to both western and Mongolian cooking on our trips.There are always vegetables available, and we have no problem accommodating vegetarians on our trips.For breakfast we can usually buy fresh yogurt from the herdsmen in the local area.
